Battery electrolyte testing system - uses two balloons immersed at different levels in electrolyte to measure differential pressure in gas filled tube

The method determining the state of charge of a lead/acid battery (1) monitors the difference in the hydrostatic pressure at two points at difference levels (W1,h2) of the electrolyte. A vertical tube (4) immersed in the electrolyte carries two gas filled balloons (5,6) at two levels. Between them, inside the tube, there is located a pressure sensor (7) connected by a line (8) passing through a seal (9) inside the tube to an electrical measuring instrument (10) such as a digital voltmeter, to measure the differential pressure. The pressure sensor may be a piezoelectric crystal or a piezoelectric cermic sensor. Instead of a gas, the tube may contain a liquid such as water, glycerine or silicon oil.
