PURPOSE:To raise the removing efficiency of fine particles present in waste gas by designating the amount of CaO contained in alumina cement used as a sealing material for the ends of the through holes of a ceramic honeycomb filter at 27wt% or less. CONSTITUTION:For a ceramic honeycomb filter in which the end parts of the through holes 2 at given positions of the honeycomb structrue are sealed up with an alumina cement as a sealing material 4, an alumina cement containing 27wt% or less CaO is used. When an aggregate is preferably further added to the alumina cement, a ceramic honeycomb filter which has a high corrosion resistance even at high temperatures of 1,200 deg.C or higher, heat resistance, high filtering capability, and high removing effect for fine dust particles in high-temperature exhaust gas from internal combustion engines can be obtained. Thus, when the ceramic honeycomb filter is placed before a catalyst for removal of CO, HC, NOx, etc., fine particles arrested by the filter are burned in high-temperature exhaust gas and the burning gas is arrested by the catalyst, so that no blinding of the filter occurs and the need for cleaning is eliminated. |
