Gas-fired radiant heating tube of the closed type for use in controlled atmos. furnaces for the heat-treatment of metal components in which the outher radiant tube contains an intermediate perforated air tube and a central gas pipe with a burner at the end; the burner has orifices which deliver gas axially (towards the closed end of the radiant tube) and radially (towards the tube's wall) as well as air holes which pass air from the annular passage between the gas pipe and the air tube and direct towards the closed end of the radiant tube. This multi-directional air injection cretes a fuel mixt. and combustion conditions with minimum sooting. The flow if air right through the end of the air tube keeps it cool and prolongs its life. Uniform temp. of the radiant tube is obtd. by distribution of air tube perforations.
