The arrangement is intended for a Diesel engine having a cylinder(s) (2) with a reciprocating piston and a cylinder head (3) with inlet (10) and exhaust (11) valves and a fuel injector (19). The inlet duct (4,5) contains a supply line (26,28), whose outlet orifice (29) is adjacent to the inlet valve seat (8) and as far as possible from the injector, through which air with or without an oil-soap emulsion is admitted. This additional medium enters at higher velocity than that of the combustion air passing through the inlet duct caused e.g. by a converging tube (30-31) which is arranged around the supply line in the inlet duct and forms a venturi to accelerate the additional medium.
