A method of adjusting eddy current test equipment enables the test object positioning problems due to eddy circuit heating, and consequent expansion, to be overcome. A test-piece is first passed through the test coil. This test-piece has two adjacent conductivity monialies, one of which has an additional material deficiency, e.g. a small drilled hole. As a result reference points corresp. to points outside the conductivity and dimension tolerance range are included in the oscilloscope trace. The imaginary line joining the points corresp. to the dimensional direction in the impedance plane. The trace image is rotated until the joining line is parallel to one axis of the c.r.t. The conductivity is then easily read from the distances of subsequent traces from the stored line. This method is suitable for testing containers and pipelines, e.g. in heat exchangers used in nuclear reactors.
|
