A tool electrode is used to form a hole or a recess in a workpiece by spark erosion. The workpiece is next clamped in an abrasive polishing machine. A disc is cut from the tool electrode to make a polishing tool, which is oscillated axially using a small amplitude(h) during the polishing of the recess. A large axial reciprocation stroke (H) is superimposed on the small amplitude(h) of oscillation, so the entire surface of the recess is polished.
