PURPOSE:To expel the moisture adhereing to surfaces of ceramic insulators and metal parts encased in an airtight canister by radiating gamma rays thereto for evacuation. CONSTITUTION:An evacuating device to be used, say, for a sensor 10 to a radioactivity detector, consists of a heat furnace 11 controlled by a temperature controller 14, a vacuum pump 12 controlled by a vacuum system controller 13, which deplenishes the air out of a sensor 10, installed in the heating furnace 11, and gamma ray source 15 controlled by a ray source controller 16. Thanks to this arrangement, the moisture adhering to the surfaces of insulators and metal parts can be reduced to about 1/10 of the initial value by radiating as much as 10<6> roentgen rays of cobalt 60, cesium 137, etc.
