Liq. biologically decomposable, foam-inhibited detergent, for domestic and industrial washing machines consists of a soln contg >=1 fatty acid alkali soap (I), and wrt wt (I), 0.12-2.5 wt.% of >=1 dissolved anti-foaming agent, 2.5-62.5 wt.% soluble org. cpd dispersing and removing alkaline earth soaps, 2.5-37.5 wt.% org. wetting agent raising flowability, 2.5-25 wt.% emulsifier and for use in hard water, an inorg. salt e.g. Na2CO3, K2CO3, NaHCO3, KHCO3, Na-or K sesquicarbonate, inorg. sec or tert. phosphates, tetravalent pyrophosphate, Na- or K- meta- or hexametaphosphates, tripolyphosphate, alkali silicate and/or meta silicate and pref. 1-25 wt.% borate buffer. Anti-foaming agent pref. consists of (a) alkali silicone dissolved in (b) tributylphosphate and/or (c) CCl4, where (b):(a) and/or (c):(a) is 1:15 to 15.1.
