1469136 Plant growth regulant E I DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO 22 July 1974 [23 July 1973 (2) 17 Sept 1973 30 May 1974 (2)] 32383/74 Heading C1B [Also in Division C2] Compounds which are used as plant growth regulants have the Formulae I and II where M is H or a non-phytotoxic cation; provided that when the compound has Formula I, M is not H; R is M, C 1-8 alkyl optionally substituted by Cl, Br, F or I, C 3-8 alkenyl or benzyl optionally having one or two substituents selected from Cl and CH 3 ; R 5 is C 1-6 alkyl, C 3 or C 4 alkenyl or benzyl; X is O or S; and Y is O or S; provided that when Y is S, X is S; and when X is S, R is not H. Compounds of Formulae III and IV where R 6 is M or R 5 and Z is O or S, provided that (a) when Z is S, R is not H and R 6 is not M, (b) when R 6 is M, R or M is not H, and (c) when both R and R 6 are M and Z is O, M is not H, Zn, Mn, Na, Cu, Pb or Ag, are claimed per se. Compounds of Formula I may be prepared by hydrolysing a corresponding ester (the carboxylic group may also be in the form of an amide) and optionally replacing the cation M by ion exchange. The invention also includes a plant growth regulant composition comprising an inert diluent and a compound of Formulae I or II which is not a simple solution of said compound in water or an organic solvent in which it could have been prepared. |
