PURPOSE:To make a nozzle surface clean and obtain a favorable recorded image by providing a cleaner at a nonprinting position of a printing head. CONSTITUTION:After a printing operation is finished, a carriage is moved from a drum wound with a paper, in the axial direction thereof, and is positioned in front of a cleaning part 21. The cleaner 40 has a rotary drum part and a plurality of plate-shaped flaps 41 which are made of an elastic material and are extended radially in the periphery of the drum part. The flaps 41 rub against the nozzle surface of the printing head 18 and scrape off the foreign substances 16 such as the ink, paper dusts and the like which are deposited on the nozzle surface. Of the foreign substances 16 thus scraped off, relatively heavy ones fall down into a receiving pan 23 provided below the cleaner 40, while a mist 24 of minute particles is conveyed in the direction of arrow E by an airflow along the rotating direction of the flaps 41. A projection 25 is provided for blocking the mist 24 from moving together with the flaps 41. |
