The clear plastics support layer for the collimating louvres (7) is less than one mm thick and is bonded to a support layer (2) of glass or plastics. The sandwich is applied to the front- and rear windscreens and provides the driver with a set angle of vision to eliminate direct sunlight into the vehicle. The layer can be removed in winter, when direct sunlight is welcome to heat the interior of the car. No moving parts are required nor is there any wind noise as from conventional louvres. The louvre effect can be isolated around the edge of the windscreen and the relative angle of the louvres can be varied over the height of the cover to correspond to the curvature of the glass.
