<p>A high voltage gapless arrester having one or more surge arrester blocks positioned within a recess in an elastomeric housing. The recess is of a length less than the axial length of the block or blocks in order to provide a bias force on the blocks to maintain electrical communication between the blocks. An electrically conductive contact is provided at each end of the blocks and is also biased into electrical contact with the blocks by the inherent resilience of the housing. An electrically insulating filler is provided within the recess around the outside surface of the blocks to eliminate any voids on the outside surface of the blocks thus preventing corona discharge. An electrically conductive shroud is provided at the inner end of the recess to engage the inner end of the blocks and thereby eliminate any potential corona discharge.</p> |
