<p>An appts. to give a semi-automatic toe-closing for closely packed stockings comprises a combination of functions giving (a) a manual instrument to arrange the stocking inside out; (b) a unit to hold and carry the stocking toe to be stitched, and (c) a holder for the stocking toe while a machine stitches it. These units and functions are synchronised. The inside-out stocking is placed on a tube for the toe to be clamped and stretched horizontally and passed between two horizontally-acting discs. These discs are displaced by a partial rotation while the stocking toe is stitched and seamed. The system increases productivity at the toe closing stage of prodn., introducing an element of automation which allows the operatives to supervise a greater number of machines, and the profile and position of the stocking toe can be adjusted as required.</p> |
