The invention relates to a connecting device with two parts which are connected to one another by a fastening element with a head and a shaft and by a retaining element. The retaining element contains a fastening-element mounting portion with a seat for the head of the fastening element and with an access opening which permits the head of the fastening element to be fitted on the seat. The invention also provides a method of connecting the parts to one another as well as improved components for the device. <IMAGE>
