The solar heat collector for heating water is a transparent cylinder, mounted vertically on a flat or pitched roof. It encloses a water storage tank with radial ribs. A hollow enclosed displacement cylinder and a coaxial cylindrical shell inside the water tank create a narrow peripheral layer of water which is quickly heated on a sunny day. Cold water from the mains is connected to the bottom and warm water can be extracted from the top of the water tank without the assistance of any pumps. This creates a low-cost system which combines all necessary units in one casing.
