<p>Catalyst for C2H4 oligomerisation consists of (a) a Ni cpd. and (b) a tri-(carboxymethyl)-phosphine having formula P(CH2-COOM)3 (IV) (where M is H, alkali metal or an N(R')4 gp. in which R' is H, 1-10C alkyl or 6-14C aryl). The 12-30C oligomers are used as raw materials for detergents, e.g. alpha-olefin sulphonates, alcohol ethoxylates and amine oxides. Lower olefins can be worked to lubricating oils or plasticiser alcohols. Higher olefins are used as waxes. In the presence of (IV), (i) the n-alpha-olefin proportion in olefin mixt. prod. is 96-100 wt.% and the degree of isomerisation is 0.2 wt.%; (ii) the Ni catalyst can be complexed with various organic ligands.</p> |
