Switching arrangement of an appliance for guiding along a plant row, especially a long-stalked crop in maize harvesting, with the aim of achieving a high follow-up accuracy and operating reliability. The object of the invention is to provide a switching arrangement which permits a constant input signal at the follow-up device independently of the number of sensed plant rows. This is achieved, according to the invention, in that a feeler (1, 2) is arranged on each of the two sides in at least two conveying channels and is connected to a respective inductive transmitter (3, 4). At the same time, all the right-hand transmitters and all the left-hand transmitters form a group in each case. Both are connected in parallel via diodes (12, 13) and the groups are connected in series with one another. In this type of connection, the respective higher output voltage of, for example, two parallel-connected transmitters participates in the signal formation, whereas the lower has no influence. By the arrangement of a plurality of pairs of feelers, the input signal is formed from the highest output signal of all the transmitters located on the right or on the left of the plant rows.
