The universal rack comprises a portal frame (1) mounted on a base (2) which can be mounted on rollers, and may be used to store glass sheets. Apertures (4) at uniform centres are provided in the frontal arrisses of the frame posts (3), being used to attach support rails (5), shelves or intermediate supports (7) with hooks. The rails may have a continuously slotted box section and may have external protection in the form of a natural or a synthetic rubber pad. The rails are welded to 'U' section post saddles (11) which include one or more hooks. Alternatively, hooks may be incorporated on rail clips (13).
