Rock-cutting bandsaw with diamond segments - has cutting faces of segments wider than those soldered to band

The rock-cutting bandsaw has diamond segments fixed at intervals along one narrow edge of the band. Each segment has a lower cutting face approx. parallel to the rock surface, and an upper soldering face by which it is joined to the band. The effective width of the lower cutting face (16) of the segment is greater than that of the soldering face (20) bearing against the band (1). The segments can be rectangular, successive ones being set outwards towards opposite sides and inclined to the band.
