Air cooled constant velocity joint - has slots in hub to act as radial blower for brake disc

The vehicle constant velocity joint has the wheel mounting flange (16) of the hub with slots (15) to act as a radial blower. Air is taken in at the centre of the wheel and is pumped radially over the brake disc and the brake mounting. Part of the airstream cools the wheel bearing (6). The constant velocity joint has a fluid reservoir (13) which connects with the bearings (6) via radial holes (18) so that the lubricant is pumped to the bearings at a pressure corresponding to the square of the wheelspeed. No external cooling circuit is required.
