PURPOSE:To enable formation of a pit only at a path part of electric current by dielectric breakdown and perform optical recording in a high density, by composing a photoconductive film of a layer for generating electric charges by absorbing light and an amorphous carbon layer which contains hydrogen. CONSTITUTION:A recording layer comprising a photoconductive film is provided on a substrate 1, and the recording layer is irradiated with a light beam while applying an electric field to the layer. By this, pits can be formed in the recording layer, thereby recording. The photoconductive film consists of a layer (light- absorbing layer 3) for generating electric charges by absorbing light and a hydrogen-containing amorphous carbon layer (amorphous hydrogenated carbon layer 4). The electric field may be developed by electrodes 2, 5 provided on the substrate and electric charges provided on the recording layer side, or may be developed by a voltage applied between two electrodes 2, 5 provided on opposite sides of the recording layer. The light beam may be projected either from the substrate side or from the recording layer side. |
