A system to control heat-energy transfer between a central unit and a structure consisting of a number of spaces. Heat-energy transfer is accomplished by use of one or more heat valves (10) disposed in each space to control independently the rate at which energy transfer is achieved between that space and the central unit (1). The heat valves are controlled to maximize on time (ton) of the central unit while satisfying room or area temperature requirements: hence, in the usual operation, less than all the heat valves (10) are activated, the number being matched to the capacity of the central unit. The objective of maximizing ton of the central unit is accomplished because use of the heat valves (10) permits the central burner firing rate to be set by the heat load of the structure. Ideally this firing rate is allowed to be variable and is set by the same device that controls the heat valves.
|
