The instruments which measures ionic activity are calibrated automatically to determine differences in characteristics compared with thereoretical performance. This is performed by entering digital data into memory via recorded programme and by digital processing of data. A digital circuit with recorded programme (1a) operates in conjunction with memory (2a) and numerical display (4a). A keyboard (3a) permits entry of data. Push buttons (5a, 6a) control initialisation and transfer validation. A high impedance amplifier (11a) is connected to measuring electrode (20a) associated with reference electrode (21a). Its output passes via A/D converter (9a) with reference voltage generator (7a) to provide digital values for evaluation and display.
