A process for the production of electrically conductive polymers having electrical conductivity values of greater than 10<-><2>S/cm in which from 0.1 to 95% by weight of black phosphorus and from 0.5 to 25% by weight of a strong Lewis acid having a pk2 value of from -10 to +4 are added to organic polymers from the series comprising the polyphenylenes, heteropolyphenylenes or preferably polyacetylenes in the absence of atmospheric humidity and oxygen. Preferred Lewis acids are the compounds AsF5, SbF5, UF6, SbCl5, AlCl3, BF3, CF3SO3H, VOCl3, HClO4, NO<+>SbF6, NO2<+>SbF6<->, NO<+>AsF6, NO<+>PF6<->, J2, Br2, JCl, PF5, CrO2Cl2, NO2<+>PF6<->, NO<+>BF4<->, NO<+>ClO4<->, (CF3)2SO4, NbF5, TaF5, WF6, FeCl3, CdCl2, 2,4,6-trinitrophenol, 2,4,6-trinitrophenylsulphonic acid and 2,4,6- trinitrophenylcarboxylic acid. The electrically conductive polymers prepared can be used in electrical engineering for the production of solar cells, for the conversion and fixation of radiation, for the production of electrical and magnetic switches and for rendering plastics antistatic.
