Apparatus for burning spirit or similar liquid fuels. A draught or burner tube has a flange defining a gap in relation to a ring spaced below the flange and supported thereby. The container is engaged with the ring from below, an exposed surface of a fuel-absorbing mass being located inside the ring. A gap is open at the periphery of the flange and the ring so that combustion air is drawn to the draught or burner tube through the gap along the exposed surface of the mass together with fuel vapours evaporating therefrom.
