The belt drive mechanism comprises a belt running round driving and driven pulleys and consisting of a number of pressure blocks sliding on a continuous strip-type core. A number of springs (22) fit between the blocks (20) and slide over the core (18). Linear movement of the blocks in relation to the core is possible when blocks and springs are loaded as a column, so that some relative rotary movement is possible between the pulleys without belt slippage. Thus any torsional vibration exerted on the driving pulley can be absorbed.
