Hay making machine has two rotary rakes the axles of which are connected together by a sheet metal beam to the opposite ends of which are connected the portion of the frame of the machine that is coupled to an operating vehicle such as a tractor. The beam may be patly channel shaped with the open side facing downwardly and may have a closed cross section near one end. The beam may have a partition situated near one axle and the axles may be secured to the part of the beam having the closed cross section. A drawing shaft for the rakes may be situated close to the partition.
