PURPOSE:To obtain a new corrosion inhibitor by forming the mixed aromatic carboxylic acids byproduced at the time of oxidizing isopropyl toluene and producing its hydroperoxide into the specific salts. CONSTITUTION:At the time of oxidizing m- and/or p-isopropyl toluene with molecular oxygen and producing its hydroperoxide, the mixed aromatic carboxylic acids byproduced at that time are obtained. These are made into salts by alkaline metal compound (e.g., hydroxide of sodium and potassium) or organic amines (e.g., monoethanolamine). These are extremely easily soluble in water at an ordinary temp. and are exceedingly effective as a metal corrosion inhibitor for internal combustion engines and cooling towers. In adding this metal corrsoion inhibitor in water or aqueous medium, it exhibits excellent effect when added within a range of 0.05-5wt%, preferably 0.1-2wt%. |
