A black and white video signal from a TV camera is passed via a matching unit to a high speed A/D converter. The converter output is entered into a memory by a clock circuit which also drives a line and colour synchronising circuit to which the peak separator output is applied. The memorised signals comprise digitally coded signals corresponding to the grey level of the video signal and for each signal digitally coded components for blue, red and green are produced by automatic or manual addressing control of the memory. These digitally coded colour components are decoded in a D/A converter in which they are weighted and summed to produce a video signal for a colour monitor. The operation speed is such that a partic. processed digital colour signal is produced prior to the attention of the black and white signal succeeding that corresponding black and white signal.
