The ductor and inking cylinder for a printing plate are the same size. The ink is supplied from an ink fountain. The thickness of the ink film is regulated in two stages: coarse regulation by the ink knife and fine regulation by a group of rollers which picks up printing ink from the fresh ink film. Printing ink is scraped from the final roller of this group. Various components of the inking unit are temperature-controlled.
