PURPOSE:To simplify the structure of a turning gear for an inlet or exhaust valve to prevent an internal combustion engine from having a larger size by constituting the turning gear such that a rocker arm having at an end thereof a pad portion which is adapted to be line contacted with a valve stem is reciprocated, upon rocking motion thereof, in an axial direction of a rocker shaft to turn a valve. CONSTITUTION:A projection 20 is formed on a rocker arm 8 having at an end thereof a pad portion 18 which is adapted to be line contacted with an end face 15 of a valve stem 4 of an inlet or exhaust valve 2. A recess 1 is formed on an end face 17 adapted to be contacted with the rocker arm 8 and has an inclined face 18 presenting an angle THETA. When the rocker arm 8 is rocked, it is rexiprocally slid in an axial direction of a rocker shaft 10. When the pad portion 13 pushes down the valve stem 4 to a valve lift H, the line contact part moves the distance L in the direction of an arrow mark A and also moves in the direction of an arrow mark B due to engagement of the projection 20 with the inclined face 18 so that the valve stem 4 is subject to a force to rotate the valve stem 4 in the direction of an arrow mark C and hence is rotated thereby in the direction of the arrow mark C. |
