The device has an insulating body with a prismatic configuration and pierced with a row of cavities (12) which are parallel and lie in the same plane to accommodate the male or female connectors. The body carries a row of half dovetails which are arranged to align even if connectors have differing numbers of cavities. Each half dovetail has a longitudinal prismatic notch along its upper face (30). Between each dovetail is a flexible strip (18) with a dog at its end (17) with a 45 degree chamfer on its outer face and a straight inner face. The connectors can be joined together by sliding one on top of the other so that the dovetails interlock. The dogs slide along the notches in the tops of the dovetails and lock the connectors together by engaging against the face of the dovetail. The dogs in the top face of the lower connector limit the travel of the upper connector. The connector is intended for use in the motor, and electronics industry.
