The tool holds the strings during the stringing of tennis racquets fitted with a wide centre section equipped with grooves which are positioned at a distance corresponding to that of the strings from each other. On both sides from the centre section there are holding jaws fitted with corresponding grooves and two strings extending in parallel to each other which can be clamped in each case between the centre section and the holding jaw. The holding jaws (6) have a linked connection at the end of two levers (1,2) crossing over each other which are connected to each other at a further joint (3) and which are pressed apart by a spring (14). The holding jaws (6) on the centre section (8) are bent over outwards and are held in such a way that they are free to turn over.
