PURPOSE:To obtain the titled inexpensive high-speed tool steel with high mass productivity by mixing atomized high-speed tool steel powder not contg. Ti and Zr with powder of the nitride, carbide or carbonitride of Ti or Zr and powder of Cr, Ni or the like in a specified ratio and by molding and sintering the mixture. CONSTITUTION:To 65-97wt% water or gas atomized powder having <=44mum particle size and consisting of, by weight, 0.5-2.2% C, <=1.5% Si, <=1.0% Mn, 3.0-6.0% Cr, <=15% Mo and/or <=30% W (W+2Mo=4-30%), 0.5-10% V and the balance Fe with impurities are added 2-15wt% powder of one or more kinds of compounds having 0.1-10mum particle size selected among the nitrides, carbides and carbonitrides of Ti and Zr and 0.5-20wt% powder of one or more kinds of metals having <=10mum particle size selected among Cr, Ni, Mo, W, Cu, Co and Fe, or 0.01-1.0wt% carbon powder having <=44mum particle size is further added. They are uniformly mixed, molded, and sintered to obtain a high- speed tool steel having superior wear resistance and welding resistance.
