Refractory lining for rotary drum furnace - using matrix of pyro:plastic bricks contg. hard bricks, esp. where furnace is used for mfg. cement

Lining consists of a single layer matrix of square pyroplastic refractory bricks (I) forming spaces in which refractory bricks (II) are embedded. Bricks (I) have a hot bending strenqth at 1400 deg.C to DIN of 0.5-5 N/sq.mm; a pressure flow of 0.01-0.05%/h in a DIN alternating temp. test at 1000/1400 deg.C for 24 h using a constant pressure; and a growth or shrinkage of 0-0.8% at 1500 deg.C in a DIN test. Bricks (II), when tested under the same conditions as those described above, have a hot bending strength of min. 5 N/sq.mm; a pressure flow of less than 0.01%/h; and a growth or shrinkage of 0-0.5%. Bricks (II) pref. do not touch each other; and the lining pref. resembles a chess board. Lining has high wear resistance when exposed to the high stresses involved, esp. when mfg. cement.
