<p>The parent patent describes an assembly of nuclear fuel rods comprising a lower section housing a bundle of sheathed fuel rods cooled by a refrigerant which flows out through an upper section. The two sections are joined by a hollow cylinder fitting in a flexible member in each section to permit limited relative movement between sections so as to provoke flexure rather, than reaction stresses during operation and dismantling. A number of practical, inexpensive flexible couplings are now proposed as operationally superior to the original couplings, including a ball and socket joint a cardan universal joint and a laminated, flexible stack joint.</p> |
