<p>PURPOSE:To efficiently control the meandering motion of a rolled strip, during a cross helical rolling work practiced by a pair of a work roll and a backup roll whose axes are parallelly arranged, by shifting the work roll in a direction of rolling the strip. CONSTITUTION:A steel strip S is rolled in a rolling direction F; a lower work roll 11 with a lower backup roll 10 and an upper work roll 16 with an upper backup roll 15 respectively makes a roll pair having parallel roll axes; hereupon, the upper roll pair and the lower roll pair cross at a mill center O-1. When a lateral thickness deviation t1-t2 is generated in the strip S by a certain cause, the lower work roll 11 is shifted in the rolling direction F in order to change the mill center from O-1 to O-2. Hereupon, the gap theta between the upper and lower rolls shows the displacement of the mill center. This displacement is compared with a previously obtained normal value, and the deviation between two values is inputted to a controller which then corrects the meandering motion of the strip S.</p> |
