PURPOSE:To obtain a high-Mn nonmagnetic steel causing low thermal expansion and having superior ductility, superior toughness and high strength in a wide temp. range below a temp. close to room temp. by adding a specified amount of C, Si, Mn, Cr, N, Al and Ca to Fe. CONSTITUTION:A high-Mn nonmagnetic steel is prepared having a composition consisting of, by wt., <=0.5% C, <=1.5% Si, 16-40% Mn, <=12% Cr, <=0.1% N, 2-10% Al, 0.001-0.1% Ca and the balance essentially Fe or further contg. at least one of <=0.5% V, <=1.0% Nb and <=0.5% Mo. |
