An anode, for use in the electrolytic production of aluminum, gives an improved service life, reduced current consumption and improved metal production when it comprises a carbon body formed wholly or partially of light coke(s) to present a plurality of pores and discontinuities into which a carbon-bearing material has been pressure-impregnated, volatile constituents of the carbon-bearing material being burnt off and the carbon remaining in the pores and discontinuities. |
