The mechanism is intended for aligning a workpiece, particularly a reversible cutting bit (W) during grinding. It comprises a support arm (11) swivelling on a pivot (12) eccentrically carried in a bush (19) which is rotatable in a bore (17) in the housing (16). The arm is swivelled with its stop pin (31) against a stop (30) which is parallel to the pivot and has a portion (30b) rotatable in a bore (29) in the housing (16) and a portion (30a) eccentric to the bore. Levers (33) radially projecting from a fixed to the bush (19) and to the portion (30b) are swivelling by a cylinder actuator to correctly position the arm and thus correctly located the bit.
