The invention relates to a method of pretreating titanium cylinders for the electrolytic manufacture of copper foil, in particular for printed circuits. The object of the invention is to operate copper foil manufacturing installations without a preparatory operation period and hence without loss of foil. According to the invention, the titanium cylinder, which is connected as the cathode and on which the copper is deposited, is pretreated with sulphuric acid. This produces surface structures which permit copper foil meeting the required quality parameters to be obtained, just when the titanium cylinders are put into operation.
