Thermal control material e.g. for spacecraft - with electrically conductive layer between outer and thicker inner thermally insulating layers

The material, partic. a thermal blanket or tile for a spacecraft, includes an outer and a thickner inner thermally insulating layer, and an intermediate layer with electrical conductivity much greater than in the outer layer. The insulating layers are pref. of Kapton, PTFE, or of glass with enhanced electrical conductivity due to the glass solidifying in a mould while exposed to an electrical field, or the layers are bombarded with electrons of sufficient energy to penetrate right through. The material may be made by ion bombardment of a single insulating sheet, or the conductive layer may be of metal, or all layers may be transparent. Where separate layers are used they are pref. secured with conductive adhesive.
