The machine has at least one changing device (5) for the winding stations, in which the continuously supplied thread (Y) is wound directly onto a cross-wound bobbin (C) from the spinning station (S). In the event of a bobbin change, the changing device (5) automates and co-ordinates the severance of the thread (Y) by a thread-severing device (3, 10), the sucking off of a thread through a long channel (1) and, if appropriate, also the initiation of the bobbin change. <IMAGE>
