In a coal hydration method, wherein the hydrated product is fractionated in a hot separator (9) arranged downstream of the reaction area (8) into a head product (10) in a vapour phase and into a distillation residue (11) containing a liquid heavy oil, non distillable compounds and solid materials, a portion of the heavy oil separated coming from the distillation residue of the separator will be returned (16) into the separator. Thereby, the residue of the separator will be diluted. The tendency to coking will then be reduced; hence, the hot separator will be able to operate at higher temperatures As a result of these higher temperatures, the hot separator will produce more head products, and to this effect a bigger quantity of heat will be available for the heating of fresh coal through heat exchange between the head product and the fresh coal.
|
