Tread pattern for radial ply tyres - to improve drainage and wet grip at high speed without loss of directional stability

A tread pattern for radial ply tyres for touring cars is divided by circumferential grooves such that those near the edge of the tyre are 2-3.5 times wider than those near the centre of the tyre and connect via lateral channels of similar width to the edges of the tread pattern. The wide channels near the tread borders increase drainage and inhibit aquaplaning, to maintain grip to higher speeds. The predominantly circumferential tread rib patterns with the tread borders retain good directional stability and smoothness.
