Applying additive to filter tow

Plasticiser or other fluid additive is applied to a moving filter tow (2) in an applicator chamber (4) by means of a rotary brush (6). Uncaptured plasticiser is collected in a container (26) and returned to the chamber (4) for reapplication. The rate of initial application is controlled by a pump (14) and that of reapplication by a restrictor valve (30); the rates are independently variable. The supplied and collected plasticiser may be applied to different sides of the tow using spray head (31).
