The moulded lever (23) for a double wheel castor brake is pivoted about the wheel axle (16) and set between the wheel halves. It is operated by foot pressure on a protruding pad (47) and has a cam end (26) on the other side of the pivot to press a brake shoe (27) upwards into the inside of the wheel profile. A return spring (30) in the cowl moulding (18) returns the lever to the rest position. The cam end has a curved section with its centre on the axle. In the braking position the spring axis, point of contact between the cam and brake shoe, and axle all lie on the same vertical line.
|
