The invention concerns a machine for positioning of fish for decapitation, cutting off the head, in which use is made of a straightening wheel 6 with main straightening tools 8, which shifts the fish arranged for processing in the fish trough 2 across the direction of forward motion of the conveyor track during the transport, and with the tail in the direction of shifting. The shifting distance is controlled by a mechanism which comprises a straightening wheel 6, which rotates with a crownlike projecting curved track 19. The detected height is transferred via an adjustable curve mechanism 31 to a brake shoe 29, which by pressing down on the fish 34 halts its shifting when the optimal position is achieved. The machine can be adjusted to handle different fish by changing the effective length of the single-arm lever 21 in the curve mechanism 31. <IMAGE>
