In a dental apparatus having at least one drilling instrument 1, which is started up and regulated by means of a control unit 13 having an adjustment member 14 which is movable from a rest position, automatic drainage of a cavity created with the drilling instrument 1 is realized through the creation of an air blast by means of an air- blast device 3 which is attached to the drill instrument 1 and is activated from the control unit 13 via an air- activating member 8 when the adjusting member 14 is returned to the rest position after having been moved from this. The air blast can consist of two separate blasts of different duration, for example a short blast for blowing away any after-drip of water from a coolant sprayed out during use of the drilling instrument 1, followed by a long blast for effective drainage of the created cavity. <IMAGE>
