The heating installation combines a heat pump (P) with the heat recovery unit (1) installed in the flue of a wood burning fire. The heat pump uses air as its working fluid, drawing fresh air through the chimney to be preheated. The coupling of the heat pump to the heat recovery unit is regulated by a vane which is controlled by temperature transducers. Various combinations of heat source are obtainable by individual regulation of the heat pump and the heat recovery unit. An ambient temperature transducer controls the electric motor driving a circulation pump to give more precise control of room temperatures. The heat pump can be either of the water-air, or air-air type.
